Electrolytic polishing is used to examine materials with homogeneous structures, both in inspection and research applications.

POLISEC electrolytes are used for laboratory examinations. They can be used in cells or baths, depending on the material to be polished oe etched. The polishing or etching operations are generally very short because the circulation of electrolyte leads to fast stock removal. Generally, it is necessary to cool these electrolytes in order to avoid overheating in case of extended use.

ELLOPOL electrolytes can be used for in situ non-destructive examinations. They are used only for buffer-type polishing. The area to be polished is only damped by the electrolyte contained in the sheath. Polishing or etching can reveal fine structures.

Before using the ELLOPOL II portable electrolytic polishing machine, the surface must be prepared by mechanical polishing. For this, we recommend an Electer portable polisher with abrasive discs and polishing cloths that can be used with diamond pastes. The Ellopol II is equipped with buffers covered by Sharpol pointed shealts or Ogipol round-nosed sheats used to apply electrolyte for polishing and etching.

Replic products can be used to record micrographic structures on hard to access surfaces. Two products are available:

- REPLIC varnish, applied with a brush in a thin layer and peeled off after 20 to 30 minutes.

- REPLIC foil (available in a kit), pressed to the specimen after applying a special solvent to the foil, then peeled off after 2 to 3 minutes.

In both cases, the prints are subsequently mounted on glass slides for examination under a microscope.
